mental health Sundays #12 - parents with mental illness

β€œI always feel obligated on a personal and also public awareness level to discuss my experiences with mental health situations. My mother is bi-polar. She spent several months throughout my childhood in mental institutions. My father suffered from anxiety and ultimately succumbed to his depression and anxiety troubles and committed suicide 4 years ago. As a child growing up with exposure to mental health concerns it was somewhat normalized to/for me. Knowing that both of my parents are/were wonderful good people taught me to not fear or hold prejudice for mental health. It made me want to advocate for it as an adult and speak openly and honestly about it to others. I would be happy to share my experiences as child of two parents with mental heath struggles.” - @smallpopco
