let's talk ceasefire

UP UNTIL OCTOBER 7, ISRAEL AND HAMAS ALREADY HAD A CEASEFIRE

Trigger warning (for Jews)

Ham@s violated this ceasefire on October 7, in the most abominable manner possible. It launched a barrage of 6000 missiles aimed at Israeli civilians. It massacred 1,500 people (and counting), predominantly civilians, including the elderly, women, children, toddlers, and Holocaust survivors. It maimed and mutilated 80 percent of those it murdered. It gang r@ped scores of women and even young girls. It decimated entire towns and communities. And, of course, it abducted over 200 people, primarily civilians. Per international law, these hostages are not “prisoners of war.”

On October 7, not only did Ham@s violated a ceasefire, but it also committed war crime after war crime with genocidal intent, so much so that over 100 experts on international law say Ham@s’ actions fall under the definition of genocide.

An important point: a Washington Institute poll found that 62 percent of Gazans opposed Ham@s breaking its ceasefire with Israel on October 7.

ISRAEL, HAM@S, AND CEASEFIRES: A BRIEF OVERVIEW

In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from the Gaza Strip. In other words, Israel ended its occupation of the Gaza Strip, removing every single soldier and civilian — sometimes forcefully — from Gaza. Since 2005, Gaza has not been under Israeli occupation.

Two hours — no, that’s not a typo — two hours after Israel withdrew, Ham@s fired its first barrage of missiles at Israeli civilians. Additionally, Gazans destroyed some $14 million worth of infrastructure that Israel had left behind.

In January 2006, Ham@s won the parliamentary elections in Gaza. In June 2007,. Ham@s conducted an incredibly violent military coup, removing the entirety of the opposition — Fatah — from the Strip.

Since then, Ham@s has fired over 25,000 missiles aimed at Israeli civilians, which they fire from their own civilian areas. This constitutes a double war crime.

Over the years, Israel and Ham@s have agreed to some 15 ceasefires, all of which have been violated — often within hours, if that — by either Ham@s or Palestinian Islamic Jihad, with whom Ham@s has a relationship that is most accurately described as “frenemies.”

WHY IS IT THAT THE SAME PEOPLE DEMANDING A CEASEFIRE ALSO CHANT TO "GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA"? WHY IS IT THAT THE SAME PEOPLE THAT CELEBRATED OCTOBER 7 NOW WANT A CEASEFIRE?

The Second Intifada was a five-year-long Palestinian suicide bombing campaign that took the lives of over a thousand Israelis, 80 percent of them civilians. Among the dead were elderly Holocaust survivors, infants only a few days old, pregnant women, tourists, foreign workers, young children, students, and Israelis of all religious backgrounds and ethnicities (Arabs, Jews, Druze, etc). Virtually every Israeli family — Jewish or not — was touched in one way or another by the Second Intifada.

There is nothing “ceasefire” about the Intifada (and, God forbid, a global intifada, which is a call for global terrorism against Jews). There is also nothing “ceasefire” about the massacres of October 7.

HAM@S, MUCH LIKE THE N@ZIS, IS DRIVEN BY GENOCIDAL JEW-HATRED. IT SAYS SO IN THEIR FOUNDING DOCUMENT.

Their leaders have repeated this stance over the years.

Some people you can’t “ceasefire” with, just as Israelis and Jews worldwide learned on October 7.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

In the 1930s, as H!tler and the N@zis increased their aggression toward Jews and the neighboring countries, thousands marched on the streets in the United States, opposing war with H!tler.

Similarly, in 1938, Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich Agreement with Germany, which he dubbed “the peace for our time.” Less than a year later, Germany invaded Poland, and World War II began.

In 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, a “non-aggression” agreement between the two parties. A little under two years later, in 1941, Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

On August 23, 1939, in the midst of the Zionist Congress, the delegates learned of the non-aggression pact signed between Germany and the Soviet Union.

In the photo, their faces are filled with dread, because they knew exactly what this meant: certain death for their Jewish siblings in Eastern Europe.

Today, Israelis and most Jews understand that a ceasefire with Ham@s would eventually subject us to a similar fate.

HAM@S CHOOSES VIOLENCE. ALWAYS.

Over the years, time and time again, Ham@s has rejected long-term ceasefires that would not only get Israel to lift the blockade, but also would bring in billions of dollars worth of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Over and over, Ham@s has chosen to reject these deals, because their goal is not truly to liberate Palestine. Their goal is to slaughter Jews.

WHY I OPPOSE A CEASEFIRE

My opposition to a ceasefire is not because I want to bomb Gaza into oblivion, or because I want civilians to die. I don’t.

I do not oppose a “humanitarian pause” to bring aid into Gaza — the civilians sorely need it — so long as we can ensure that this aid is not diverted to Ham@s, which they’ve been known to consistently do in the past. In fact, just the other day, UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, admitted so themselves.

There have been at least 15 ceasefires between Israel and Ham@s, and every single one has been broken by either Ham@s or PIJ. Since Ham@s coup in 2007, the way Israel has been dealing with incessant Ham@s rocket fire has been a sort of “mowing the lawn” approach — Ham@s gets too rowdy with the missiles, and the IDF strikes back. Wash, rinse, ceasefire, repeat.

Ham@s has stated from day one that their goal is to annihilate every single Jew on the planet. Until October 7, Israel thought it had them relatively under control. Obviously it didn’t, and the consequences were tragic.

A ceasefire means Ham@s remains in power. A ceasefire means wash, rinse, ceasefire, repeat. It means, in the long haul, more Ham@s-Israel wars — which, as you know, will result in the deaths of even more Palestinian civilians. And it also means that if ever given the opportunity again, Ham@s will do what it did on October 7. It’s something they’ve threatened to do for decades, and on October 7 they tried to carry out on that promise. Enough “tolerating” Ham@s.
